The day I tried to sell gold
The man turned out to be much older than I had expected. His voice had sounded young on the phone and when I actually saw him, I could not believe it was the same person. He was more or less fifty years old, still quite handsome, immaculately shaved and groomed, with strong and dense grey hair and a long, thin face. He had small, piercing blue eyes. He introduced himself and sat down on the chair opposite mine. Then he ordered a cup of hot black coffee. He asked me if I still wanted to sell gold. I suddenly remembered why we were there. The man had contacted me on my email several days before and asked me if I could show him the gold that I was trying to sell on an internet auction website. We had arranged a meeting at a restaurant in town. I took the gold out of my bag and showed it to him. He looked at it closely, like a real expert. He asked me where I got the gold. I told him the story. My grandfather had visited India long time before and brought this home. I really hoped the man would decide to take it. I was determined to sell gold. I needed money to buy a present for my older daughter. She was getting married the following week. The man raised his eyes and looked at me. He wanted to say something but hesitated for a moment.
